Weather - HOT?

Yesterday's weather said today could come up to almost 40 degrees Celsius. So my dad asked: "So, what's the hottest day you've ever felt?" Well, 37 degrees sounds just like that!

Well, just kidding. Now it says around 30 degrees. Someone was temporarily {lying?}.

But, anyways, what's your weather where you are living?

Now where's the hair spray?

source: www..........
What A lovely quarter horse!

Yes I know that that does not sound at all like an animal related blog post title but it is. Did you know that sometimes people use hairspray in a horse's mane to make them look good in a show? It's true, I have done it. There is an amazing array of stuff that people use to make their horses look good.

They use stuff like hair spray, hoof polish, tail extensions(!?), and other things along the lines of that. In a halter class you do not actually ride your horse but you just lead it around and stand while trying to look as good as you can while the judge inspects your horse, looking at it's conformation (aka. what your horse looks like compared to what a horse of that breed is supposed to look like. ) People will use hairspray to make the mane stay straight. Some times people will use the horse equivalent of make up to make certain parts of their face shine. Hoof polish is used to make the hooves shine. In some places you are allowed to use colored hoof polish and in some places you have to use clear hoof polish. Tail extensions are well, are tail extensions.

The tack.... now that is a whole other subject.

Are you an animal lover? Then you would love these jobs...

#1. A veterinarian

This is probably the first career with animals that people think about when thinking of a career working with animals. In most countries in the world, you must complete 4 years of college before you can start working as a veterinarian. But before you can call yourself an animal doctor you have to have at least a year of internships before going into practice as an independent veterinarian of either small or large animals. Once you start working you will be training for animal surgery, animal medicine, pathology, exotic etc. But, if you are really a true animal lover and you truly love to help them (they can be the most complicated patients since they don’t speak and you’ll have to discover by yourself what seems to be the problem) you wouldn’t mind going through all of that.

How to make a bubble snaker (Wiki-how)

See here: http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Bubble-Snake-Maker

Method 1 of 3: Assembling the Bubble Maker

  1. Make a Bubble Snake Maker Step 4.jpg
    1
Cut the bottom off each bottle. Use scissors to cut across the base of each bottle being turned into a bubble snake maker. Only remove the bottom quarter portion of the bottle so your child will have enough room inside the bottle to blow into the washrag or fabric.
  2. Make a Bubble Snake Maker Step 5.jpg
    2
Create a circle on the washcloth or fabric. Cut a large circle that can be placed at the bottom of the bottle and held snugly with the rubber band. The fabric or rag will need to overlap the bottle enough for the band to hold it in place, so cut with plenty of edge left.
    • If you don’t want to cut into your washrag, just make sure it fits comfortably (flat and not bulky) on the bottom of the bottle and is easily held in place by the rubber band.
  3. Make a Bubble Snake Maker Step 6.jpg
    3
Cover the bottom of the bottle with the fabric. Secure it with the rubber band. Consider double tying the rubber band to ensure a snug fit; however, avoid crushing the bottle.

Method 2 of 3: Making Bubble Blowing Mixture

  1. Make a Bubble Snake Maker Step 7.jpg
    1
Create your own bubble blowing mixture in a small bowl. Consider using small individual plastic bowls for each child (this lessens any chance of fighting to get to the bubble bowl). Homemade bubble mix is made as follows:
    • Combine two parts regular dishwashing liquid (not the type used for automatic dishwashers though) to one part water. The water used can be warm or cold.
    • Gently mix the liquids together without creating froth or bubbles.

Dreams & Journeys

  1. Make a Bubble Snake Maker Step 8.jpg
    1
Dip the fabric end of the bubble maker into the soapy water mixture. Allow the fabric to absorb the soap and water without over-soaking the fabric (or it will become heavy and too soggy to create bubbles).
  2. Make a Bubble Snake Maker Step 9.jpg
    2
Blow on the other end of the bottle (the mouth) and watch the bubble snake emerge.
    • Instruct children to gently blow in a steady stream to achieve a constant, consistent flow of bubbles.
    • If the fabric becomes too saturated with bubble mixture, remove it, wring out and replace.
  3. Make a Bubble Snake Maker Intro.jpg
    3
Finished. Blow as many bubbles as you wish, adding more bubble mixture if needed.

A 3rd Grader Shocked His Entire School With His Assignment About God!

Why I Believe in God

Written by Danny Dutton, age 8, Chula Vista, California,
for his third grade, homework assignment

"One of God's main jobs is making people. He makes them to replace the ones that die so there will be enough people to take care of things here on earth. He doesn't make grown-ups, just babies. I think because they are smaller and easier to make, That way, He doesn't have to take up His valuable time teaching them to talk and walk. He can just leave that to mothers and fathers.

God's second most important job is listening to prayers. An awful lot of this goes on, since some people, like preachers and things, pray at times besides bedtime. God doesn't have time to listen to the radio or TV on account of this. Since He hears everything, not only prayers, there must be a terrible lot of noise in His ears, unless He has thought of a way to turn it off.

God sees everything and hears everything and is everywhere, which keeps Him pretty busy. So you shouldn't go wasting His time by going over your parent's head asking for something they said you couldn't have. (...) "

The koala's secret to staying cool

The koala's secret to staying cool: Hugging
Tree-hugging, to be exact
By Matt Soniak | June 4, 2014

Very chill.

To beat the heat, some animals crawl into underground burrows. Some take a dip in a stream or watering hole. Some sweat. Some pant.

For koalas, who spend most of their lives high in the trees, the options are pretty limited. There are no burrows to hide in or pools to splash in. Koalas are also found across a broad range of environments in Australia, says Natalie Briscoe, a research fellow at the University of Melbourne. Where it's humid, panting might not do them much good, and in dryer places, it can put them at risk for dehydration and death. Briscoe wondered if there was some other behavior the helps koalas cope with the heat. Maybe they stick to shadier parts of their trees, or sit differently when it's hot out.

In a paper published Tuesday, Briscoe and a team of researchers from Australia and the U.S. reveal the koala's behavioral trick for keeping cool:
They hug trees. Literally. (...)

Simon Cowell Wants a Pet Penguin!

I want a pet penguin! Did you hear Simon Cowell does too?

This X Factor judge has fallen in love with penguins! Unfortunately, US laws declare having a penguin as a pet illegal. So, even if Simon had enough money for a penguin (which we all know he does!), he would not be able to get one.

St. Francis Solano

Ordinary Time: July 14th

The diocese of Cordova, in Spain, was the birthplace of this Saint, who won many thousands of souls
to God. From his earliest years he was characterized by a modest behavior, prudent silence, and edifying
meekness.

His education was entrusted to the Jesuit Fathers, and later he entered the Order of St. Francis. Soon, he
excelled every one in the house in humility, obedience, fervor in prayer, and self-denial.

In 1589, he sailed for South America to preach the Gospel to the Indians in Peru. While near shore, the ship
strucrocks, and there was danger of drowning.

The captain hurried the officers and principal passengers into the only boat there was and tried to induce
the missionary to accompany them; but he refused to do so. Consoling the remaining passengers, he prayed
fervently and alone kept up his hope in God's mercy. At last, rescuers arrived and all were taken off in safety.

The missionary did not confine his ministry to Lima. He visited the forests and deserts inhabited by the Indians,
and by degrees he won their trust and in this way baptized nine thousand Indians. He was then recalled to Lima,
which at that time was like a godless Ninive. Francis preached to the hardened sinners, and the whole city
became converted.

Finally, after a painful sickness, his last words being, "God be praised!" his soul departed this earth on 14 July,
1610. He was declared Blessed by Pope Clement X in 1675 and canonized by Pope Benedict XIII in 1726.

What is raw chocolate?

Who, what, why: What is 'raw' chocolate?

"Raw" chocolate is being sold as the latest "superfood", but what is it and why is it getting more popular, asks Justin Parkinson.

Making chocolate is complicated. Cacao beans have to be picked before being fermented, roasted, ground down, pressed, mixed with fat and sugar and turned into bars and other sweets.

Several companies in Europe, the US and Asia have decided to alter one of the processes and no longer roast the beans. They insist that growers in Africa and South America leave them outdoors to dry naturally instead. The resulting product is called "raw" chocolate.

Manufacturers claim that avoiding exposure to oven temperatures allows the preservation of nutrients such as iron, zinc, magnesium, copper and vitamin C, in a similar way to uncooked vegetables. It's also claimed that uncooked cacao contains higher levels of antioxidants than the roasted variety used in most chocolate. (...)
