Watch A Baby Chameleon Hatch From Its Egg And Take Its First Steps

Smaller than your smallest finger and waggling its beady eyes with full 360-degree vision, is this hatching chameleon cute or creepy—or an indeterminate mixture of both?

Emerging headfirst from its egg, the baby lizard warily stumbles around Bambi-like, taking in its new surroundings of a giant human hand. Chameleons can have a gestation period of between four and 12 months, depending on whether the species is ovoviviparous or oviparous.

Extinct Animal Found Alive and Well in New Zealand

A tiny marine animal that was thought to be extinct for the past four million years has just been found living in New Zealand.

“Our detective work has also suggested the possibility that Protulophila may be the missing polyp stage of a hydroid in which only the tiny planktonic jellyfish stage is known,” NIWA’s Dennis Gordon says in a news release. “Many hydroid species have a two-stage life cycle and often the two stages have never been matched. Our discovery may thus mean that we are solving two puzzles at once.”

Beauty in all Things Tolkien

I have always found beauty in the works of Tolkien. The Lord of the Rings  is one of my very favourite books. I am currently reading The Silmarillion, and though it is a hard read, I can see the delicate craftsmanship in each sentence.

I found a page on Facebook called "Beauty in all Things Tolkien" that was looking for admins, and I thought, "Hey! Beauty in all Things Tolkien! That's.. the perfect page for me!" So.. I'm an editor of the page now. I was thinking maybe some of my Tolkien fans over here would be interested in taking a look.. so here's the link. :)

Be my guest..

So my sis and I were preparing some bags for a trip, and I was going to show her some of my backpacks that she could choose from if she so desired. They were in the basement so I opened the door and started singing.. "Be my guest, be my guest.. put my backpacks to the test." I continued for another line and then my sis added a line and we almost died laughing. After my sister picked out a backpack, we went upstairs to the tell the tale to our  parents.

I explained to my mom and then started singing.. "Be my guest, be my guest, put my backpacks to the test.."

That's as far as we got because my parents burst out laughing and my sis and I followed suit. "But that's not even the funny part!" we complained, laughing.

The room finally quieted and, sobering myself (to no avail), I started again. "Be my guest, be my guest, put my backpacks to the test! Tie the straps around your neck, cherie.. and you'll be choked to death!"

Yup. That last line was my sister's - genius, eh? That allowed another round of laughter. (Afterwards I added something along the lines of: "Try the blue one, it's delightful! Don't believe me? How very spiteful!")

But.. laughter is good for you. Right?! So here's to a good laugh.. cheers!

And This is Why Animals Are Awesome...

Hey bro.

What are you looking at?

My friend.. H20.. we meet again.

SQUEE!!

Bye! Thanks for reading this! And make sure to check out Slice to see more..

Minute Meditation (May 8, 2015)

Certainly it is the great secret of the spiritual life to abandon to God all that we love by abandoning ourselves to all he wills.

Astronomers discover farthest galaxy ever measured

An international team of astronomers, led by Yale University and the University of California-Santa Cruz, have lately discovered an extremely bright blue galaxy some 13.1 billion years in the past, when the universe was only five percent of its present age, according to a study published online in Astrophysical Journal Letters on May 5.

The galaxy, EGS-zs8-1, was first identified due to its special colors in pictures taken by NASA’s Hubble and Spitzer space telescopes, and is one of the most luminous and massive objects in the early universe.

Minute Meditation (May 4, 2015)

A divine voice spoke to my soul, saying, “I did not love you as a joke.” These words caused me mortal pain for immediately the eyes of my soul were opened and I saw all that he suffered in life and death…and that it was not as a joke but because of perfect and tender love that he loved me.

St. Joseph the Worker (Saint of the Day -- May 1st, 2015)

St. Joseph has two feast days - the second one, dedicated to St. Joseph the worker in particular, is today.

There is little about Joseph in the Scripture, however, we know that he the husband of Mary and the foster father of Jesus - he was a poor man and worked as a carpenter. An interesting fact, that many may not know, is that he came from the royal lineage of King David. In fact, the angel who first tells Joseph about Jesus greets him as "son of David".

Joseph was a kind, humble, and caring man. After they had been betrothed, he discovered that Mary was pregnant, yet he was still unaware that she bore the son of God, so he planned to divorce Mary as he believed the child was not his. Joseph was concerned for her in case she be accused of adultery, so her decided to divorce her quietly to not expose her to shame or cruelty. Joseph was also obedient to the will of God; when an angel visited him in a dream to reveal to him that Mary was bearing Jesus, Joseph immediately took Mary as his wife. Again, when the angel returned to warn him that his family was in danger, Joseph left at once with his wife and child, for he dearly loved his family and was always ready to protect them.

St. Joseph is the patron of various things, including dying (because he died a happy death with Mary and Jesus by his side), the universal Church, fathers, carpenters, and social justice.

O Glorious St. Joseph, model of all those who are devoted to labor, obtain for me the grace to work conscientiously, putting the call of duty above my natural inclinations, to work with gratitude and joy, in a spirit of penance for the remission of my sins, considering it an honor to employ and develop by means of labor the gifts received from God, to work with order, peace, moderation and patience, without ever shrinking from weariness and difficulties, to work above all with purity of intention and detachment from self, having always death before my eyes and the account that I must render of time lost, of talents wasted, of good omitted, of vain complacency in success, so fatal to the work of God.

All for Jesus, all through Mary, all after thine example, O Patriarch, St. Joseph. Such shall be my watch-word in life and in death.

– Composed by St. Pius X

Minute Mediation (April 30, 2015)

There is nothing better that you can do in this world than to totally give yourself to God in the person of the poor and our needy brother. – Blessed Dulce Lopes Pontes

St. Peter Chanel (Saint of the Day -- April 28, 2015)

St. Peter Chanel was born in 1803 at Clet, France. At the young age of seven he was merely a shepherd boy, yet the local priest noticed something unusual in him - Peter had exceptional intelligence and simple piety. The boy began to study in a little school the priest started. After that, he entered the seminary. It was said of him:" He had a heart of gold with the simple faith of a child, and he led the life of an angel."

Peter was ordained a priest and assigned to a worn down parish at Crozet that he greatly transformed in his stay there. In 1831, Peter joined the newly formed Society of Mary. Just five years later, the Society was given the New Hebrides as a field for evangelization - Peter was appointed as superior of the small group of missionaries sent to teach the Faith to its inhabitants.

Following a hard ten month journey, when they finally arrived, they seemed to be well accepted. However, after a while only a few were baptized and the chieftain was suspicious and hostile. Finally, when the chief's own son desired to be baptized, the chief grew angry and he sent a group of warriors to dispose of Peter.

On this day - April 28 - in 1841, St. Peter Chanel was clubbed to death by those he had desired to save. However, his death brought his work to finish - the island was soon converted to Christianity.

St. Zita (Saint of the Day -- April 27, 2015)

St. Zita

St. Zita was born in 1218 at Montsegradi, Italy - about the time that St. Francis was entering spiritual knighthood. Her family was poor but holy and she was brought up by her virtuous mother. The girl grew up with a love a God, and even at an early age she never lost sight of Him in all her actions.

Her older sister became a nun, and her uncle was a hermit who the locals considered a saint. Zita herself was sweet, modest, and prayerful. She ate waste scraps and wore poor, ragged clothes.

Since Zita was taught thoroughly that labor was a punishment for sin and a remedy for spiritual diseases, she thanked God heartily when, at only twelve years of age, she was put into service for the Fatinelli family in Lucca. She would work hard all day, and every morning she rose early to attend Mass and say prayers. Her work was a part of her religion: "A servant girl is not pious, if she is not industrious; work shy piety is sham piety," Zita would say.

Zita often gave food to the poor and visited those sick and in prison. So kind and good was Zita, that one cannot understand how she could not be admired; however, she was unjustly despised, overburdened, reviled, and often beaten. Through all this, she never complained nor lost her patience.

One time, Zita stayed longer at church than she intended to. As she was traveling home, she realized she was far behind in her work; it was baking day. As she hurried into the kitchen to begin work, however, she found the bread ready to be baked. Was it a miracle?

Word spread in Lucca of Zita's good deeds and the visions that appeared to her; she was sought out by important people. In 1278, at her death, a brilliant star shone above her attic room.

St. Zita is the patroness of domestic workers. Her feast day is today - April 27.

It's World Penguin Day!

Soo.. basically since I am obsessed with penguins.. I had to post this. Let's celebrate!

Hmm... what's that? YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT PENGUINS ARE?!?!? Fine, then I'll have to enlighten you.

Penguins are flightless birds that live not only in Antarctica (as many of you may think) but even in warmer places, including the Galapagos Islands. There are 17 types of penguins, including:

Rock hopper penguins (Northern and Southern)

Chinstrap penguins

Emperor penguins

All penguins have the appearance of wearing  a tuxedo, though each species has a different look. For example, chinstrap penguins (see above) look like they have a a strap on their chin, and macaroni penguins (see below) have a tuft of yellow-orange feathers perched on their heads.

Macaroni penguin
Fun facts:
  • Emperor penguins can dive for up to nearly 20 minutes without coming up for air.
  • Penguins have excellent hearing, despite their lack of visible ears.
  • The fastest penguin, the Gentoo, can reach top speeds of 22 mph.
  • Penguins don't have teeth.
  • Penguins are carnivores.
Let's celebrate!

Totally Me

The Ox and the P

Ok, so I made a joke. It's not a great joke.. but here ya go.

Whad'ya think? It's not that great, right..

Oh well. I tried.

So. A little bit about me. I want to be a veterinarian or, better yet, a penguinoligist. I like any kind of physical activity but swimming is my favourite. I am abnormally short and one of my friends always calls me shortie. *wink wink* I know you're there.

My favourite movies include the Lord of the Rings, Narnia, and some great Disney ones like Treasure Planet or the Emperor's New Groove. I also like the TV series All Creatures Great and Small.

As for books.. well, again there is Lord of the Rings and Narnia up there.. and All Creatures Great and Small. I also like the Young Gilbert Keith Chesterton Series, the Percy Jackson books,  and the Ranger's Apprentice series. Etc.

Some of my hobbies are writing, swimming, and playing guitar. I sort of know how to play Oh When the Saints Come Marching In.. is that the title of it or am I just spewing words? xD

There's this one song I really like to play. It's called Playing in the Park. Note: I'm using something called Yousician to learn guitar on - you get about half an hour a day 'lesson time', and after that you can still practice, but without feedback and you can only play songs you already learned. Or.. you can buy premium. So yeah.
